Treasure Hunting,Anyone?
I came across an article the other day and I found something quite fascinating thatI thought might interest our die-hard trail
riders and possibly some of our members, Geocaching. I'm sure you are asking yourself, "Geocaching, what's that?" Well, geocaching is an outdoor treasure-hunting game in which participants use a global
positioning system (GPS) receiver or other navigational techniques to hide and seek containers called "geocaches" or "caches,"anywhere in the world. In these caches, one can find a wide variety of rewards or trinkets and a log book, to record the date and time you visited the site. If you decide to take something out of the cache you are asked to leave something in return. Today, there are over several hundred-thousand geocaches registered on various websites devoted to the sport, with geocaches placed all over the world, even in Antarctica. I have found a few websites that are hoping to spread the interest of geocaching to the equestrian community,
"EquiCache™"(www.equicache.us), which is one of the more sophisticated sites, that will launch its website in the Spring of 2008 with a database
of locations of prospective treasure sites, and Equicaching(www.equicache.com), which
is already up and running, that has a database and logging system. On this siteyou can also create your on cache locations!
The rules are simple once you find a cache:
1. fill out the logbook
2. take something out of the cache
3. put something in the cache
4. return the cache to the exact position and condition which it was found
I believe this could be something worthwhile for our trail riders or any of our members who are looking for an adventure.
CONGRATULATIONS!!
Royal Prancer, owned by Michelle Pimentel of Ceres, California was the High Point Paso Fino in the North American Trail Ride Conference. She was presented with a beautiful High Point Plaque from the Paso Fino Horse Association at the NATRC's National Convention and Awards Banquet held in Denver, Colorado, February 16, 2008.
The show season is well under way and there is a show almost every weekend somewhere. I hope everyone has a great time at the shows. Please read up on your rules to avoid any mishaps and misunderstandings. Don't be afraid to ask questions. You're not the first and certainly will not be the last person to ask a questions. You may view all the upcoming shows and other events going on in the Association by checking out the Events Calendar at www.pfha.org to see the most current information available.
REGIONS
Are you approaching a show deadline? Make sure you check the status of your shows. There have been a number of regions that have either had to rush information to the Association last minute or have paid a fine for being late. Don't be one of them! Take a minute to contact the Events Department if you are unsure where your show stands.
Paso For Pleasure
I am sure that most of you who have heard about the trail riding program offered by the Paso Fino Horse Association, but for those of you who haven't , I would like to introduce the Pasos for Pleasure.
Paso for Pleasure is a program that gives are non-show riders the opportunity to reach personal achievement goals with their horses. Riders are able to qualify for achievement patches and rewards by documenting their riding hours to the 50,100,250,500,750,1000,1250,
1750,2500,3500 and 5000 hour levels. In order to participate, you must be a member the PFHA , ride a Paso Fino registered with the Association and pay a one-time enrollment fee of $25. All you have to do is fill out the form found on our PFHA website under the Infoseek menu under forms. There you will also find the official log sheet needed to log your hours. If you have any questions after referring to the log sheet and application for Paso for Pleasure, feel free to contact April at the PFHA office (813) 719-7777 or Email the Events Department directly at showaide@pfha.org.
