I think my favorite idea, was to have peer monitoring for our judges. Have judges attend random shows, to see how our judges are doing in the ring!
I also loved the idea of televising (via the internet), the BOD meetings! I think it would be a great idea for the membership to see how it is being represented, when you are unable to attend the meetings in person!

Kerry I am glad you enjoy the live show on the Internet but I Personally think it is hurting our Paso Fino's, I explain my self, Everyone agrees that National was poorly attended, Well we should ask Carlos how many people were watching the show thru the Internet. I bet thousand of people and those people that stayed home could have been Potential buyers that would normally see a horse that they liked and follow it to the stall and maybe ride the horse and buy it on the spot but since they were at home watching it over the internet the sale was not possible. Also lets ask the vendors if they also hurt? Well that is my oppinion they should only show it live to other countries and maybe put it over the Internet a week or two after the show or do what they use to do sell the DVD's of the show.

Actually Derek, I was referring to the BOD meetings being broadcast, in my post. I do see your points about the live broadcasts of the shows. I don't think it would be wise nor cost effective to broadcast all shows live. Not for the exhibitors, vendors or the production team.
I do enjoy the live broadcasts of larger shows, such as Nationals, La Mundial, Spectrum, etc. I think the low attendance at Nationals was likely due in part, to the lack of disposable income for those who enjoy the breed as a hobby, not as a means to put food on the table. Therefore, if they cannot afford the expense of attending a horse show, I have to wonder if they could afford the expense of purchasing or caring for a horse that they might purchase at a show.
On the other hand, the live show exposure that newcomers might enjoy via the internet, may inspire them to attend future shows, or visit farms. I worked with Platinum Horse Production to put real time results of the classes on the internet for a couple of shows. Having that data available to people in writing (versus maybe being able to hear the announcements in the arena...which we all know is iffy), allows people to find out who owns that lovely horse we want to know more about, so that they can contact them about that horse or horses.
Two sides to each coin. I'd much rather attend in person, but there are times when that is not possible. I am one of the ones who is a hobbyist. My horse does not provide income for me, so my bottom line does not require me to attend shows. I do it because I love to see all of the horses, and catch up with all of the people who make up my Paso Horse family...that's what we are after all...one big happy family. Make no mistake, I do not wish for our breed to become one of virtual reality, but I'd rather have people watch the shows over the internet, than not watch them at all. Out of sight, out of mind, is never a good marketing strategy.

Great ideas, but how to implement? Let's face it. If a survey was taken of all those present at both meetings how many go to their regional meetings? How many go on the internet and read their delegate reports (BTW-none are up there, but how many know this? OK, I did find two reports back in 2004.)
Ed cannot do this alone. He is one person with one vote only. He does not hold the power to make change, we do. And who are we? We are mostly volunteers who have to be convinced we have free spare time to devote to the breed. We expect Ed to step up to the plate, but shouldn't Ed expect the same from us?
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The idea of webcasting the BOD meetings should happen period. There's no reason why it cannot. Some regions cannot afford to send their delegates. Look at the voting record for NW region. Generally the delegate is not present, so they have NO voice in what happens on a national level. There is no reason why each region cannot be actively participating in some manner at a BOD. The general cost of setting up each region to receive a webcast is probably cheaper than one air fare ticket, the cost of hotel and meals for one delegate trip.
What about voting? How would members feel if they actually voted on issues instead of depending on less than 10% of the members who show up at a regional meeting do it for them? Remember the show tax last year? That was brought up at the BOD, with no membership input, voted on, passed, and then rescinded when the members found out. Now I have to wonder what were our delegates thinking then? Did any say wait a minute we better table it until we ask our regions? Does the BOD know when to ask members and when not to?
I am not for peer review of judges. The system is broken and I want no part of it. Attend a J&S clinic and you'll see what I mean. These are intelligent, committed, dedicated people who, for some reason, cannot find the courage or empowerment to be their own people while judging. They influence each other enough as it is. READ THE RULES! and you will see that to become a judge you must have sponsorship and recommendations by whom? Judges. Then you work under whom? Judges. Then you are evaluated by whom? Judges. So how does that change by having your new-found buddies reviewing your actions? It doesn't.
To continue, then why is it that with the current political buddy system do our judges have such diverse opinions and placements? Maybe because when left alone to their own devices we find out that the TRAINING and EDUCATION are not there.
Forget spending all this money on self-examination of each other, which is already in place and begin teaching, testing our judges. Find an impartial panel of horsemen to be the reviewers. I "think" PFHA could find a few if it really wanted to.

We missed the meeting, I guess I have to check PasoVoice.com to find out about what is happening out there!
Did they talk about having an equine dentist check the horses teeth to find out the true age of the horse specialy in 3 and 4 year old class?

Jacky, they didn't discussed the Dentist, what was discussed in the Miami meeting was, changing the STUPID age thing.... and adopting a similar age class classification like Confepaso and all others organizations have...
The PFHA is encouraging people to lie, if we keep the current age TABLE! And isn't fair to the horses.
we want to keep the competition fair, three years old w/ three years old, four year old w/four year old. I say have someone check the teeth until they change the age class classification.

Hey Jacky, I just posted the videos...... lets us know what you think beside your very important suggestion that I think is very important to maintain the honesty.
I don't think that the embryo issue was address properly. Looks like a great meeting but not too many people there as the paso people is not being reached. We normally go to these meetings as we know how important they are but we did not find out about it.
As you know not everybody have internet.
“The President of Nascar has no interest in any team and does not drive any car either, when is the interest of the paso people going to be more important than self interest.”

Well! I dont think we could rely on any site unconfirm number of viewers
But! I do have to agree with Kerry! EXPOSURE is priceless! and anyone around the world that could have the opportunity of being introduced to this breed through any media sources is IMPORTANT for the breed, and everyone will benefit.
