Yesterday was the annual NC State Fair Piedmont Paso Fino show.  This is always a nice show, and this year was no different.  Many farms from the Carolinas and beyond attend and bring some really great horses each year.  There are always some great competitions amongst our youth, who I think are tested the most at our shows.

I had the pleasure of meeting a Paso Voice member, Derek Fernandez, who was one of the show judges.  I want to say it was a pleasure to meet Derek, I've long admired his committment to our breed.  He is as gracious in person, as he is on line, and my only regret was in not having more time to talk horses with him.

There are some people who attend this show each year, to help make it such a nice show.  I think they deserve some recognition.

Ali Casey and Flatrock Farm...Ali works like crazy to make this a fantastic show.  She hosts a pig pickin' the night before the show each year, for the exhibitors, works with the riders who participate in the flag parade, is the "go to" lady for any and all questions I ever have (and I send lots of people to her too...which I'm sure she appreciates!), AND she brings gorgeous horses to show.

Dr. Ann Furr and her family...this family populates so many of the classes, it's rare that a Furr is not in one of them....even the trail class!  I think she had a horse in nearly all the classes yesterday, if not...in each division for sure.  She has gorgeous horses, her entire family are excellent riders/horsepeople, and I honestly look forward to seeing the great examples of our breed that she brings each year.  They really show by example, what a fantastic breed we have for all ages!

The Minters...what can I say?  I think they only have missed one year, that I've been attending this show...the entire family was there yesterday, supporting one another, and our breed.  Again, great horses, great horsepeople, and I want to say a special thanks to Milda, for her great work in the trail class!

The Orr family...I'm sounding like a broken record, but here again is a family that is so involved in our breed, and does their part showing people how owning Pasos is a family endeavor...that they're not too much horse, for families to be involved with.  Great horses...gracious people.

Unfortunately, I was unable to be there for the entire show.  I imagine we'll get more info about the show from someone who attended in the late afternoon/evening.  The classes in the evening, were split with Draft Horse classes, which always means a pretty good crowd sees our horses too.  Not as many in the stands during the day, but I spoke to several people who were seeing the breed live, for the first time.  They all were quite impressed with the beauty and demeanor of this breed.

Thanks to all who organized and participated in the show...I look forward to next year!  Derek...a great pleasure to finally meet you in person!!

Sounds like a great time for all, Kerry! Thanks for giving us an update! I hope to attend next year. Just could not take the time this year.
It is great to hear so many wonderful people are promoting this awesome breed. People just don't realize just how versatile the Paso really is. Thank you, for helping to get the word out!
I hope to meet you one day soon. Next time you plan a trip to the mountains, let me know!!

You're quite welcome.  Marleen, I hope you get to make it for this show sometime...I always try to sneak over to the fair for some of the food...it's well worth the traffic headaches to have that once a year. Laughing
