Thanks Jo Ann. It could very well be a different one, I'm not sure. Candice or Felix might have a better idea about whether or not there were two of them. The one in the APF studbook was owned by LaHood, so I'm assuming he imported him. It was a wee bit before my time (in the breed).

THanks Painted! Fancy sort of "chose" me at the show....she wouldn;t let me walk past her without calling to me so she could get her head scratched! She is so sweet.! I think Ramon and Fernando saw the connection we had and wanted me to have her.
I have her on a diet with hardly any sugar or starch in her diet. Her neck was very cresty and she had fat pockets all over her when I got her. Within 2 weeks of removing most of the sugar and fat from her diet her neck has lost its crest completely! Since she has trimmed down she is really showing a tight gait. She is a very nice mover! She is still a tall mare but with some exercise now should muscle up nicely. A lot of older horses and ones that tend to get the cresty neck are insulin resistant and best to keep the sugar and starches to a minimum.
Here is a picture I took of her last night.(she has the prettiest dappled coat) I think it has been 2 weeks since I took that first picture of her. Don;t know if it is evident but her crest is gone now and most of the fat pockets she had on her butt and flanks. Still some more to go but a lot of improvement in a couple weeks.

PPR Paso Fancy free is looking Great, I love her dapples too!
La Selecta gave Jose M Berrio a paso as well, so I take her to have been in PR for a while. I have had a hard time tracking down alot of the female ends on pedigrees of his horses. In Fact the Disney Star, "Cristobalito" is said to be out of Casablanca, but the dam? Nobody has been able to tell me.
Painted Horizon, the pics are awesome, for indoors, you are going to need flash in the future, and up the shutter speed to 200th of a second.
If not, you can always go outside and take pics of the horses before they go indoors

Ferrum, when I used the flash, it got blurry. And yes, I know, shoulda gone outside, but was helping the judge! LOL
Thanks on the 200th thing, I'll have to see how to adjust that!

Hi pprpaso,
The official sire of “La Selecta” was Carabalí. Carabalí was a brother by
sire of Don Toquí and Kofresí by the name of “Arco Iris”
The official dam of "La Selecta" was a mare by the name of ‘Perla”. She
was buckskin.
Perla was by (Imperio x Acacia). She was palomino.
Imperio was by (Guamani x La Careta)
La Selecta was a classic fino champion mare in PR like all other daughters of Carabalí. There were all good breeding mares. The more well-known was the dam of Cuentas Claras, Wendolyn.
More information above “La Selecta”, and this is pure speculation, is that she may have been down line from "Palomo JQ" who bred a lot in the Fajardo-Luquillo area where Carabalí was also found. Palomo JQ, who was a palomino, had a propensity to producing buckskins.
Good Luck!

hey Ramon thanks for the info on Fancy!
Just to let you know....we covered Fancy this week! She was in heat very heavy so bred her to our stallion...Cale's Helado Oro.
I took her to our great repro clinic here in fl and she had fluid inside which we cleared out. She had just ovulated so with some luck the "little swimmers" were waiting for that egg!
Taking her back today to recheck to make sure all the fluid is gone. Some of these older mares have difficulty expelling the fluid after breeding which of course causes the mare to flush the embryo in early gestation.
Will keep you all posted on our progress. She will get "the works" since she has had breeding problems in the past.

We are having her checked Tues or wed next week. We should be able to see if she has an embryo by the 12th day with this new Ultra sound machine they have here in Ocala FLorida. THey can actually see most of them at 10 days!
We of course won't be out of the water yet with her. If she is in foal at this early stage I will definately want to see it at 30 days when you can see the heartbeat.
Fancy seems happy in her new home. She loves attention and we rode her a couple times. She is very good and with a couple more rides should be nice for just about anyone. She is a LOVE!
Here is one from October the first time we rode her. The second time we took her on a short ride and I rode my old Appy who is her buddy.
And one from last week. She has a fuzzy winter coat now. They get them even in florida.
