NEWSBLAST - AUGUST 28, 2008
Fay's Innocent Victims
Tropical Storm Fay hung over Florida dumping water for days and flooding many parts of the state.
We are no exception.
Windhorse Sanctuary currently has 12 acres under water. The flood water came right up to the barn and has completely filled our back pasture. It will be weeks before we will be able to safely graze horses there again.
With 38 special-needs horses in our care, we are having to shuffle everyone around and must take extra care to keep the blind and more compromised horses out of harm's way, especially since we have spotted gators in the flood water near the barn.
We are applying for emergency grants to help provide the extra hay needed to keep the horses fed now that they have lost their pasture, and to provide extra shavings for stalls to keep more horses safely in the barn at night.
Please visit our web site to see more photos of the flooding and how you can help the animals of Windhorse Sanctuary through this crisis.
