TO ALL ENTHUSIASTH OF THE SPORT OF EQUITATION ON PASO: FINO, TROT & GALLOP, TROCHA AND TROCHA & GALLOP HORSES.
Distinguidos Amigos:
Como conocedor e impulsor del deporte de la equitacion en caballos de paso, muy respetuosamente ,me dirijo a ustedes para compartir mi opinion en cuanto a las competencias mudiales de equitacion para amazonas y jinetes. El proximo Julio 13-20, 2008 se realizara en Medellin, Colombia la septima version de este evento mundial que reune mas de 250 ninos y jovenes de todo el mundo del paso fino.
El Reglamento
El reglamento que nos rige, me parece que esta bien concebido. Sinembargo, la interpretacion y aplicacion de algunos articulos y conceptos al momento del juzgamiento ha sido erronea.
Por ejemplo, el reglamento en el articulo # 31contempla que el juzgamiento es 100% en equitacion y define que se entiende por equitacion. Este es el concepto fundamental en torno al cual gira el deporte en si mismo.
Entiendo que la equitacion es una serie de elementos, aptitudes y disciplina que un jinete debe poseer y demostrar para ser un buen equitador.
Encontramos en primer lugar, la Posicion Corporal, que es la posicion correcta del jinete sobre el caballo en relacion con las diferentes partes del cuerpo y desglosada asi:
Posicion de Cabeza y cuello
Posicion de Hombros y espalda
Posicion de Brazos, codo, antebrazo, munecas y manos
Posicion de caderas, asiento
Posicion de piernas, rodillas, pantorrillas, tobillos y pies
Dominio del caballo, valentia, concentracion, tacto ecuestre, oido, aplicacion de ayudas, binomio.
Todo lo anterior lo contempla claramente el reglamento pero al momento de aplicarlo e interpretarlo, nuestros jueces de equitacion se apartan de la reglas. La explicacion es que no entienden lo conceptos y el arte de la equitacion y por lo mismo no lo saben interpreter, ver y valorar.
Debido a lo anterior los jueces generalmente basan sus decisiones en el caballo. Asi, los caballos mejores que presentan los jinetes, generalmente con mejores condiciones economicas, caballos de los que son propietarios o que obtienen por influencias, son los que llevan al triunfo del jinete.
Ventajas que tienen los jinetes que montan los caballos campeones.
El caballo sobresaliente tiene la atencion del publico.
El caballo sobresaliente tiene la atencion de los jueces.
El caballo sobresaliente se mantiene entrenado.
El caballo sobresaliente es por lo general automatico.
El caballo sobresaliente hace lucir al jinete asi este sea regular.
En conclusion, el jinete o los jinetes que monten los mejores ejemplares tienen mas opcion de ganar.
Me pregunto si esos caballos entran en el sorteo. Aparentemente si!. Pero la practica y las experiencias pasadas nos han demostrado que para esos caballos aparecen duenos y familiares cercanos y/o amigos que compran parte del caballo obteniendo la prelacion.
Eso es parte de juego, lo entiendo.
Pero lo que no podemos pemitir es que esos caballos sobresalientes lleven a que los jueces inclinen su decision en favor de aquellos que solo aparentan ser sobresalientes equitadores cuando el sobresaliente es el caballo que estan montando.
Considero que juzgar el arte y la ciencia de la equitacion es muy complejo y no lo podemos comparar ni igualar con los parametros del juzgamiento de caballos.
Los caballos se comparan para definir posiciones y el puesto que ocuparan en el resultado final. En los caballos hay diferencias entre uno y otro y estas comparaciones son ademas un show para el publico. Sin embargo en equitacion es diferente, un caballo conocido, elegante, armonioso, brioso, de buena conformacion hace lucir al jinete sin casi ningun esfuerzo por parte el.
Han sido muchos los casos y las experiencias en las cuales aquellos equitadores que compiten en caballos inferiores no son tenidos en cuenta por los jueces.
Lo vi y lo vieron todos en la pasada mundial de Jinetes y Amazonas en Kissimmee, Florida. Quienes fueron los que mas medallas obtuvieron? Los que montaron los caballos mas sobresalientes de paso fino clasico.
Por que a los colombianos y a los de Estados Unidos les fue tan mal?
La respuesta es simple, porque compitieron en caballos de performance y de placer que son menos sobresalientes que los finos clasico.
En esto de los caballos hay desigualdad que favorece a unos jinetes y desfavorece a otros. Debemos buscar unos juzgamientos mas justos y mejor preparacion de los jueces en el tema de la equitacion para no dejarnos confundir por el caballo.
Observe en la pasada mundial a los jueces dialogando entre si. Entiendo que no esta permitido por el reglamento. Algunos jinetes participantes fueron seleccionados para ser comparados entre si. No le encuentro razon ni justificacion, si queremos juzgamientos mas justos, cada juez debe entregar su calificacion independiente.
Al realizar las comparaciones los jueces obtienen la prerrogativa del dialogo y es muy probable que el criterio del juez dominante y mas conocedor del grupo prevalezca. De esta manera se le esta quitando la oportunidad a un competidor que hubiesese sido seleccionado por otro juez en su planilla particular de calificacion. Despues de la comparacion ese competidor inicialmente seleccionado ya es eliminado y lo reemplaza alguno de los escogidos para la comparacion. Esta es la razon de fondo que llevo a que los juzgamientos de la pasada mundial, con gran sorpresa, hubiesen sido en su mayoria por decision unanime.
De la misma forma, ese sistema de comparaciones lleva a preferencias, en el momento de la escogencia, de los jueces por sus connacionales.
Es imposible que en un grupo de 30 o 40 jinetes, las calificaciones y resultados sean casi unanimes y que tres jueces coincidan en la mayoria de las decisiones.
1. Sugiero que no se hagan comparaciones entre los competidores. Al realizar comparaciones en cuanto a la equitacion del jinete, entra en juego el caballo y corremos el riesgo de apartarnos del concepto de 100% el jinete. El binomio que se muestra y la apariencia del jinete que monta el mejor caballo va a apartarnos de lo que se esta juzgando que es la equitacion a menos que tengamos jueces con preparacion y conocimiento.
2. Que los jueces esten completamente separados.
3. Que en el corte final esten todos aquellos jinetes que aparezcan por su numero en la calificacion preliminar de cada juez. Insisto, no hacer comparaciones entre los competidores, los resultados deben basarse en el criterio de cada juez anotado en su planilla de calificacion.
Estoy seguro que si aplicamos esta norma de no permitir que los jueces dialoguen y que se mantengan separados en la pista y evitemos las comparaciones tendremos un juzgamiento con mas justicia y asi todos los competidores tendran una oportunidad. En el caso de las comparaciones se debe permitir que los competidores seleccionados para los primeros puestos cambien de caballo entre si, para poder evaluar al que mejor lo hace conservando su posicion, estilo y manejo.
Es mi intencion que estas reflexiones contribuyan al mejoramiento del deporte de la equitacion en caballos de paso fino y a su mejor y mas justo juzgamiento.

As an instructor and promoter of our sport of equitation in the Paso Fino Breed; it is with great respect that I write to you about my opinion in regards to the Youth Mundial Equitation competitions.
The Rule Book
It is well done. However, the interpretation and application of some of the articles and the criteria at the moment of competition have been used incorrectly.
For example in article 31 of the rule book, it says that the competition is judged 100% on equitation and it defines it.
I understand that there are a series of elements that a rider must possess and demonstrate to be a good rider.
We find first, that the proper position of the rider over the horse establishing a place for the riders different body parts are described as follows:
head and neck position
shoulders and back position
arm, forearm, wrist and hands position
hips and seat position
upper leg, knees, lower leg, ankles and feet position
Control of the horse, showmanship, concentration, feel of the horse, hearing of the horse, and application of riding aids, binomial.
It is very clear in the rule book but when it is time for the judges to interpret it and apply it to the actual competition, our judges distract from the rules. The reason is that they do not comprehend the art and principles of equitation and therefore are not able to see it and value it.
Because of the above statement, they base their decision on the quality of the horse. Therefore the horses presented by the youth with the best financial means or that they are the owners of these horses or because of the influences that allow them the opportunity to these horses; it is these riders that usually win the competitions.
Advantages of the riders who ride champion horses
The best horse has the publics attention
The best horse has the attention of the judges
The best horse is always in professional training
The best horse is generally a push-button horse or automatic
The best horse makes the rider look good even if the rider is mediocre.
In conclusion, the riders with the best horses will always have a better chance to win. I ask myself, if those horses enter the horse bank. Apparently, yes! but the normal practice and what we have experienced in the past is that enough family members and/or friends who purchase a portion of the horse appear at time of the competition. That is par of the game, I understand.
We can not allow that those horses lead the judges to place the good horses with riders who appear to be good riders when the merits go to the horse he/she is riding.
I consider that when you are judging the art of equitation is a complex matter and we can not compare or compare it the same parameters used to judge a horse.
The horses are compared to decide a tie breaker at the end of the competition, in order to be able to place the class. In the horses, there are differences and that becomes a show for the public. However, in equitation it is different. A horse that is known, elegant, harmonious, with brio of good conformation makes the rider shine without much effort from the rider.
There have been many cases and experiences in which those riders who compete in lower quality horses are not even considered by the judges.
I saw this first hand and so did everyone else this past Mundial of youth equitation in Kissimmee, Florida. Who won the most medals? The riders who had the best quality Classic Fino horses.
Why the riders from Colombia and the US had such poor outcome?
The answer is simple, because they had to use performance or pleasure horses that are not as impressive as the Classic Fino horses.
In the horse world there is an unbalance of quality that helps some riders and hurts other riders. We should look for a judging system that has more justice and prepare our judges better in the field of equitation so we will not get confused with the horse.
Notice that in the past mundial the judges were continuously talking to each other. I understand that this is not allowed by the rules. Some of the riders were selected for comparison. I do not understand nor find justification; if we want to find fairer judging, that each judge should place their cards independently.
When the comparisons are done the judges are done, the dialogue starts and perhaps the dominant judge or that judge that is the most knowledgeable has the most influence. This causes to take away the opportunity of a rider who could have been selected by an individual vote system by one of the other judges. After the comparison that competitor initially selected is eliminated and one selected again for the comparison is kept in the competition. The reasons that I found about the judging discrepancies of the last mundial, with great surprise, that so many of the decisions were unanimous.
In the same manner, the current system of comparisons gives preference to the judges to be lenient to their countries when selecting the riders for comparison.
Is impossible that in a class of 30 to 40 riders, the tallies and placements are almost always unanimous and that all 3 judges always coincide in most of the decisions.
I suggest that no comparisons are made with a few riders. These comparisons create the risk that the quality of the horse may influence the way the judge selects a rider to continue and it gets away from the principle of being 100% on equitation. The binomial that is demonstrated and the appearance of the rider who is on the best horse will take us away from what we are looking for judging equitation unless we find judges who are prepared and understand and with plenty of knowledge on the subject.
The judges must be located separately from each other while judging.
In the final cut, all of the riders selected by the qualification of the initial vote from the independent placement. I insist not to compare individual riders to each other; the results should be arrived by the addition of the qualification of each judge on all of the criteria for equitation, which they input into their judging cards. In case of a comparison among participants competing for the highest placements, change of horses among selected competitors should be implemented to better determine the best equestrian, the one who keeps posture, style and appropriate handling.
I am certain that if we implement the norm to not allow judges to confer and that they judge separately from each other inside the arena and we prohibit the comparisons; we will have a fairer judging and all competitors will have a chance to win.
It s my intention that these comments contribute to the improvement of our sport of equitation in the Paso Finos and to better judging standards.
