Fancy Free MakoFancy has a new home! We fell in love with this beauty at the Celebration show in N. Augusta, SC. She just has the most wonderful loving disposition and won;t let you pass her without calling you over to scratch her head!
Fancy has now joined our herd of Ppr mares and hopefully will be in foal to our Frosty in the next few months. Here is a link to her pedigree http://www.tesiopower.com/pf/sixgen.aspx?hID=10344
Here is a picture I took of her this AM here in PA.....
Thanks Ramon for making it possible for Fancy to come live on our farm!

Pretty mare! Looks like she's settling in very well. Congratulations!

Thank you! Yep she has settled in already....poor thing will have to adjust again in a month or so when we got to our Fl house. She came from Sc so she won't have any problems with the heat!
My other 3 Pasos went to Fl after the show since we were already in SC. Didn't have the right paperwork to get Fancy into FL.....the boarder patrol is pretty strict on paperwork for horses going into the state. So she came back to PA with us and is hanging out with my 23 year old Appy and my pony. She is very easy going and a joy to have around!
This is what Fancy will wake up to in FL........we are on a private lake and it makes a beautiful backdrop.

I don't have a clue as to what her dam's bottom side is. I emailed Joanne Ferrum to see if she has any info on La Selecta's dam. Fancy has a lot of roan in her coat......wonder where that comes from?
Joanne has a drawing of Alicante on her website with a video of him....pretty nice stallion!
Don't know if any of you have seen this.....it was just posted in March of 2008... http://www.arsdelicata.com/pedigrees/a/alicante1973.htm
Joanne is doing a terrific job of gathering info on the ppr horses and having this info is really nice!

I have always heard only but great things about CARABALI..... and thought I should ask... THE MARE IS STUNNING!
Thanks so much for sharing, and I wish you the best with that MARRIGE! cant wait to see the results.

Thank you for the nice comments and enthusiam Ppr Paso and caliber, they mean alot.
I am happy to announce the database now has over 10,000 entires.
Ppr Paso, Condragulations on your new girl Fancy Free mako, she is a beauty.
You can now also play with potential offspring pedigrees as well and print these out for study.
http://www.arsdelicata.com/cgi-bi...asofino.dbw&submit=Create+Now
Unfortunately, the federation started out as a competition and not really a genealogical registry. So, many mares were not registered ( especially in the beginning ).
still, I am thankful for the info we do have. Selecta's dam is not listed in the federation of in the PFHA stud books. Maybe in the APF old books? I do have some names though (people who might have known the dam). If you are interested in these you can always ask me to send them by e-mailing me in private.
Best Wishes,
Jo-Ann

Neither La Selecta nor Fancy are listed in the APF studbook. Oddly enough, Carabali is listed as being from different parents (unless it's a different Carabali).

Hi kerryW, yeah, it is a little frustrating.
But, I take the mistake to be on the PFHA stud book.
You see Carabali was not registered with them, however they gave him a number ( starting with N) in order to complete some descendant pedigrees most likely.
he was born in 62, and I think the PFHA was founded in 1972?
Anyhow, I have done my best to keep errors out. If you find any just let me know. There is also another Carabali ( not PPR and 2003 I think) that is in the stud book, so that could cause confusion.
I think My info and that of the PFHA stub book are alike for carabali, except that they placed a Duque and Doctrina behind Arco Iris ( strange)
They probably got the copitas mixed up.
Best Wishes,
Jo-Ann

I was going by the Tesio pedigree listed, so please don't think I was questioning your database, Jo Ann. I do realize that the on line databases for PFHA are incorrect on a great many horses.
What is listed in the APF studbook (1975) is that he was foaled 7/20/63; Sire: Fantacia; Dam: Soledad...and is listed as PR, which means he is a puro (according to the studbook). Owned by George LaHood, at time of publishing.
Again, not questioning YOUR database, but pointing out an inconsistency in the APF studbook. At this point in time, I'm pretty much into the pedigrees for the amusement of it...factual information in the US is too elusive to count on.

Wow Joanne that is really neat about being able to do the potential offspring on your website! Thanks for posting that!
I did find both Fancy and Carabali on pasoregistry.com.
http://www.pasoregistry.com/db/Tree.asp?ID=79167 (Fancy Free Mako)
http://www.pasoregistry.com/db/Tree.asp?ID=103017 ( Carabali)
In this case I think pasoregistry has the correct info?

Hi PPRpaso, the info looks good for the first two generations, later further back, there are differences between their records and mine.
Beltran was the owner of Arco Iris, and gave Rafael Arbelo some pedigrees
before his death, then Rafael Arbelo shared these with me. The thing was that Arco Iris Dam was not registered and there were MANY copitas, so it looks like they may have tied in a different one as the dam of Arco Iris.
I am still working on the pre ( federation Pre 1940) pedigrees, It is important to note that they registered far fewer horses back then.
But I will say this .... Dulce Sueno is the oldest horse registered born in 1927-26, if Fact no other horse born in that year is registered so it gets hard to compare him to anything else breed in that decade. In fact, the mares he bred while said to be of the best quality, were not registed. Info into them can be found in Gaztambide but there are some mistakes so it has to be done with alot of care.

Kerry I thing it must be another Carabali.
Since the registry was a competition more than genealogical registry back then, many exports had not been registered to compete, but had registered parents.
Soledad it seems was registered and had foals in 62 and 65 but not in 63, so that Carabali could be her 63 foal who was exported and not kept for the competion ring in PR.
BTW, anyone wishing to sell APF stud books, or old magazines, or etc. I am willing to purchase, and will place the info to good use!

Just out of curiosity. Is there a way anyone can get the stud books from the PR registries? It'd be nice to have a few.

Ferrum

yes Big J,
The federation sells theirs at $100.00
The National, I am not sure.
I think the Insular is the only one that does not offer theirs.

Thanks! I have the Federation book, but none of the others.
What a great job you are doing for the PPR--all of you!!!

Thanks Jo Ann. It could very well be a different one, I'm not sure. Candice or Felix might have a better idea about whether or not there were two of them. The one in the APF studbook was owned by LaHood, so I'm assuming he imported him. It was a wee bit before my time (in the breed).

THanks Painted! Fancy sort of "chose" me at the show....she wouldn;t let me walk past her without calling to me so she could get her head scratched! She is so sweet.! I think Ramon and Fernando saw the connection we had and wanted me to have her.
I have her on a diet with hardly any sugar or starch in her diet. Her neck was very cresty and she had fat pockets all over her when I got her. Within 2 weeks of removing most of the sugar and fat from her diet her neck has lost its crest completely! Since she has trimmed down she is really showing a tight gait. She is a very nice mover! She is still a tall mare but with some exercise now should muscle up nicely. A lot of older horses and ones that tend to get the cresty neck are insulin resistant and best to keep the sugar and starches to a minimum.
Here is a picture I took of her last night.(she has the prettiest dappled coat) I think it has been 2 weeks since I took that first picture of her. Don;t know if it is evident but her crest is gone now and most of the fat pockets she had on her butt and flanks. Still some more to go but a lot of improvement in a couple weeks.

PPR Paso Fancy free is looking Great, I love her dapples too!
La Selecta gave Jose M Berrio a paso as well, so I take her to have been in PR for a while. I have had a hard time tracking down alot of the female ends on pedigrees of his horses. In Fact the Disney Star, "Cristobalito" is said to be out of Casablanca, but the dam? Nobody has been able to tell me.
Painted Horizon, the pics are awesome, for indoors, you are going to need flash in the future, and up the shutter speed to 200th of a second.
If not, you can always go outside and take pics of the horses before they go indoors

Ferrum, when I used the flash, it got blurry. And yes, I know, shoulda gone outside, but was helping the judge! LOL
Thanks on the 200th thing, I'll have to see how to adjust that!

Hi pprpaso,
The official sire of “La Selecta” was Carabalí. Carabalí was a brother by
sire of Don Toquí and Kofresí by the name of “Arco Iris”
The official dam of "La Selecta" was a mare by the name of ‘Perla”. She
was buckskin.
Perla was by (Imperio x Acacia). She was palomino.
Imperio was by (Guamani x La Careta)
La Selecta was a classic fino champion mare in PR like all other daughters of Carabalí. There were all good breeding mares. The more well-known was the dam of Cuentas Claras, Wendolyn.
More information above “La Selecta”, and this is pure speculation, is that she may have been down line from "Palomo JQ" who bred a lot in the Fajardo-Luquillo area where Carabalí was also found. Palomo JQ, who was a palomino, had a propensity to producing buckskins.
Good Luck!

fancy free makohey Ramon thanks for the info on Fancy!
Just to let you know....we covered Fancy this week! She was in heat very heavy so bred her to our stallion...Cale's Helado Oro.
I took her to our great repro clinic here in fl and she had fluid inside which we cleared out. She had just ovulated so with some luck the "little swimmers" were waiting for that egg!
Taking her back today to recheck to make sure all the fluid is gone. Some of these older mares have difficulty expelling the fluid after breeding which of course causes the mare to flush the embryo in early gestation.
Will keep you all posted on our progress. She will get "the works" since she has had breeding problems in the past.

SO what is the verdict...is she prego???

We are having her checked Tues or wed next week. We should be able to see if she has an embryo by the 12th day with this new Ultra sound machine they have here in Ocala FLorida. THey can actually see most of them at 10 days!
We of course won't be out of the water yet with her. If she is in foal at this early stage I will definately want to see it at 30 days when you can see the heartbeat.
Fancy seems happy in her new home. She loves attention and we rode her a couple times. She is very good and with a couple more rides should be nice for just about anyone. She is a LOVE!
Here is one from October the first time we rode her. The second time we took her on a short ride and I rode my old Appy who is her buddy.
And one from last week. She has a fuzzy winter coat now. They get them even in florida.
