HSUS Animal Rescue Team Deployed to Iowa Floods
by: Edited Press Release
June 16 2008, Article # 12077
The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) has deployed a team of trained specialists to offer logistical support and supplies, as well as perform water rescue of animals displaced by the floods. Mass flooding across Iowa has forced thousands of residents from their homes.
"Animals are intertwined in our daily lives--this is most apparent during times of disaster," said Scotlund Haisley, HSUS senior director of Emergency Services. "It is during these times that they need our help the most."
The HSUS has been working in partnership with the Animal Rescue League of Iowa, located in Des Moines, to ensure that resources are getting to the most critical flood locations.
The HSUS has an elite team of highly qualified animal rescuers. During the past year, the 20-member HSUS Animal Rescue Team has helped more than 17,000 animals all across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The team has mobilized to help animals in hurricanes, flooding, wildfires, hoarding cases, puppy mills, and other instances of animals in crisis.
