Wanted to share some photos of Don Danilo, and his offspring. Don Danilo is fairly well represented in PFHA registrations. Names you might see in pedigrees that are descendants of Danilo are Maravilla (Juan Juan), Sherezada, Rebelde, Canario or Canario II (Coral LaCE), El Arco and Pegaso or Pegasso or Pegazo (I've seen all three). Don Danilo is considered a, if not THE Foundation Sire of the diagonal modalities.
Don Danilo produced many offspring that were very successful in the show ring...many are Fuera de Concurso. I did not list all of these horses, just a few that I've seen in pedigrees of PFHA registered horses. He is responsible for producing more Fuera de Concurso offspring than any other horse!
Don Danilo (Rey Cometa x La Danesa)F de C Trocha y Galope
Canario or Canario II (Don Danilo x Maria Bonita*)F de C Trocha y Galope
Pegaso (Don Danilo x Sensacion)Trocha
El ArcoF de C Trocha Pura
*Maria Bonita (dam of Canario II) was the daughter of Don Danilo, and was Fuera de Concurso herself, in the Trocha Pura modality. This is not the same Maria Bonita that is seen in the Meridian Meadows or "que tal" horses.
The title of Fuera de Concurso is awarded to a horse that has completed requirements set down by Fedequinas. In order to gain this title, a certain number of championships must be won, in various geographical regions designated by Fedequinas. In order to maintain the title, the horse must compete in what is called Ratificación de Fuera de Concurso, EACH year. If the title is not ratified in this class (three are held per year), the horse will lose the title and never have the opportunity to reclaim it. It is not something you get, and are done with it...you have to prove year after year, that the horse is worthy of the title.

Don Danilo was born the 20th day of February of 1957, at a farm by the name of Finca San Pedro, in Antioquia, Colombia. His breeder was Don Luis Angel Velez. Don Danilo's parents where El Zar, later on named Rey Cometa, being the first horse being born via artificial insemination in Colombia back in 1937, and La Danesa aka Zulima, Danesa was a daughter of La Café. Because of the blaze and white markings on his legs from a color then called faded yellow, he was not very well accepted in the early days of his life. In June of 1963, Don Danilo was exhibited for the first time as a TROCHADOR GALOPERO on a fair (show) in Tulua, taking home the first place, and lots to talk about.
In 1973, Don Danilo after winning again at a fair in Armenia, was sold for an exuberant amount of money never heard of before in history, and becoming the highest paid horse.
By then, new trainer was Miltiniano Lozano, in which was Mr. Lozano who showed him in the modality of Paso Fino, and won the class against Revuelo, owned by Don Mario Jaramillo. Although Don Danilo had won the class, the spectators where not satisfied with Don Danilo being presented in a modality not his, although he mastered the Paso Fino gait, he was clearly defined as a Trocha Galope.
Don Danilo was an exceptional horse, he was brioso, soft and very noble, but one thing he was for sure, an excellent producer. Don Donilo has been the only Colombian Horse that has produced more OFFSPRING that have received the FUERA de CONCURSO title EVER!
They are as follows:
Modality -Trote y Galope: 4 horses
Picassa, Rafaga, Guerillera and Maria Cristina
Modality - Trocha y Galope (Don Danilos modality): 6 horses
Danubio, Rebelde, Canario, Sherezada, La Triana and Rosario
Modality - Trocha Colombiana : 7 horses
El Arco, Consul IV, Sucesor, Maria Bonita, Dorotea, Luna Hermosa and Colombia
I've heard and read conflicting information about Danesa's dam. The common lore is Danesa was Lusitano stallion crossed with a paso mare, Diana. Some sources say Diana was the same mare as found in Bochica and others suggest Diana is a different mare.
This is the first I have heard of La Café as the dam.
Felix, is there more informantion about Dan Danilo's mother? What she looked like, how she moved, anything at all would be appreciated.
Also for Canario o Carnario II, isn't he an inbreeding to Dan Danilo and the same present in Don Pepe's predigree?
Thanks,
Candice

You know I keep seeing this said on all kinds of forums and I have asked more than once for clarification on this as I know that there are horses who are refered to as FC who have not shown in years. Amadeus for example was in this country breeding for years and never shown in order to maintain his FC title yet he is still refered to as FC. So I cannot see how this it is true that a horse must compete to maintain the title.

I've asked everyone I can think of to ask, and no one has an answer, but that is the requirement to maintain the title (according to the rule book at the time I compiled this info). I am thinking that at some point, it is no longer required...retirement, or x number of ratifications..something to that effect.

Thank you Kerry for such wonderful article, I do know for a fact some of our friends in Colombia that help you achieve all this wonderful information.
Once again, my thanks for producing the correct and accurate information of a horse that deserves all merits!
We can explore on the FC thread already started. But I feel that is important the question that Cindy pointed out, you have a very good valid point.
Once a horse received FC title and not competed again, will maintain the title for live! Now, if a horse after achive the FC title continues to compete, and on three consecutive shows THE title is not ratified , meaning does not win! WILL LOOSE his/hers Title!!!!! and please note that the wins must be at the required ZONES!!!!

Now that makes a LOT more sense. Thanks, Caliber.

John, first let me welcome you to PasoVoice!
Is that a direct son of Danilo? I did quite a lot of research on Danilo a while back, and was unable to find a direct son or daughter of Danilo, who was declared FC in the fino modality.
